The Beauty of the Bunaken National Marine Park, a Hidden Paradise




Bunaken National Marine Park has an area of ​​75,265 ha. There are 5 islands included in this national park, namely Naen Island, Bunaken Island, Manado Tua Island, Siladen Island, and Mantehage Island along with the surrounding islands. And the population of the five islands is around 21,000.

Bunaken National Marine Park Geographically, Bunaken Island is included in the "Golden Triangle" waters. More than about 3000 fish species are in Bunaken. The "Golden Triangle" area is a sea waterway linking the Philippine Sea, the Papua Sea and the Indonesian Sea. Because of the natural wealth in Bunaken, national and international non-governmental organizations work together to carry out conservation of coral reefs and mangroves.

Manado City Government has the idea to make Bunaken as a marine tourism object and educational tourism, because the local government sees marine nature conservation activities in this region. Therefore from that Bunaken Island area in 1991, the Minister of Maritime Affairs inaugurated it as Bunaken National Marine Park.

Bunaken has an area of ​​approximately 8 km ² which is located in Manado Bay. Around Bunaken, there is a marine park which is also part of the Manado Tua Marine National Park. Bunaken is also one of the marine parks that has the highest marine biodiversity in the world. Therefore many tourists who come to visit to do diving activities in the Bunaken area. Although the area covers 75,265 ha, the location of diving is very limited, only around the coast around the five islands in the Bunaken National Marine Park area.

Bunaken National Marine Park has 20 dive spots / diving spots with varying depths. Of the 20 dive spots, 12 dive spots are on Bunaken Island and are the most visited dive spots by both local and foreign divers.

Bunaken's dive points line from southeast to northwest. In this area there are giant sized vertical and curved rock walls. This wall is a food source for fish and other sea dwellers.

Bunaken is located in the marine waters of the island of Sulawesi. A portion of the Bunaken National Marine Park is north of Manado Bay and forms part of the administration of the City of Manado, North Sulawesi.

Access
To reach the Bunaken National Marine Park, tourists can use the transportation that is already available, namely motorboats from the coast of Manado Bay.
